Looking for a heat pump in Cyprus? Start with what you need it to do: heat your home, supply hot water, warm a swimming pool or provide heating and cooling. Use this checklist to prepare your enquiry and compare proposals before choosing equipment.
Which heat pump do you need?
Home heating
An air-to-water system transfers heat to water for a designed heating circuit. Ask whether your existing radiators or underfloor heating suit the proposed operating temperatures.
Hot water
Explain how many people use the property and when showers and baths are busiest. Ask the installer to specify storage, recovery time and how any existing solar hot-water system would be integrated.
Swimming pool heating
Make clear that your enquiry concerns a pool. Provide its dimensions, your preferred swimming months and whether you use a cover. Ask for equipment and performance information for that application.
Heating and cooling
Tell the business if you want both. Ask which rooms the design serves and what equipment distributes heating and cooling. For room-based systems, also browse our air-conditioning directory.
These are different enquiries. A business offering general plumbing, electrical work or air conditioning may cover part of a project; ask whether it also designs, installs and commissions your particular heat-pump system.
Is your property suitable?
Prepare a short description of your home before contacting businesses: town or village, approximate floor area, insulation and glazing, existing heating, available outdoor space and intended use. Say whether it is your permanent home, a holiday property or a renovation. Include photographs of the existing equipment and proposed installation position.
For a radiator conversion, ask for a room-by-room assessment rather than choosing a unit from floor area alone. Existing radiator output, pipework and the required water temperatures need checking. For underfloor heating, discuss floor construction and controls early, especially before renovation finishes are agreed.
Cyprus properties vary considerably. A proposal for a coastal apartment should not simply be reused for a detached village house. Ask the designer to explain the assumptions for your address, including outdoor-unit location, access for servicing, drainage and any building-management restrictions.
Heat-pump installation costs: compare the complete quote
An equipment price is not a complete installation price. Instead of relying on a generic Cyprus price range, give each business the same brief and ask for an itemised proposal. This makes it easier to see whether you are comparing the same work.
- Equipment: manufacturer, exact model, proposed capacity and what the selection is based on.
- Heating and hot water: cylinder, emitters, pipework changes, pumps and controls included in the design.
- Electrical work: supply assessment, connection, protective devices and who will undertake that work.
- Installation: supports, access, lifting, drainage, making good and removal of old equipment.
- Handover: commissioning records, operating instructions, settings and a demonstration.
- Commercial terms: VAT treatment, exclusions, payment stages, expected programme and the process for approving changes.
- Aftercare: equipment and workmanship warranties, servicing requirements and who to contact if a fault occurs.
If a quote excludes an electrician or another specialist, ask who arranges that work and whether the system price depends on it. A clear division of responsibilities helps avoid an incomplete installation or unexpected extras.
What about running costs?
Ask for a written estimate specific to your building and intended use. It should state the electricity tariff assumed, heating and hot-water demand, proposed operating temperatures and any backup-heater use. Treat advertised savings as a starting point for questions rather than a promise for your home.
If you have photovoltaic panels, explain their capacity and how you use electricity during the day. Ask how the proposed controls would work with your habits. Compare the total project cost and servicing commitments as well as the estimated electricity use.
Find plumbers, electricians and air-conditioning businesses
Browse the relevant TTC categories and contact businesses directly about the work you need. Confirm their heat-pump experience, service area and availability before arranging a survey.
Electricians
Discuss the electrical supply and connection work specified for your system.
Browse electricians in CyprusAir conditioning
Discuss heating and cooling equipment and relevant specialist experience.
Browse air-conditioning businessesIn Paphos, TNL Plumbing Services Ltd lists general plumbing and bathroom renovations. You can ask them whether they also undertake your proposed heat-pump work. A listing in one of these categories does not establish specialist heat-pump capability.
Before you hire, ask who will design, connect and commission the installation, and request evidence of the qualifications and registrations applicable to that work. The Cyprus Government's technical-systems installer guidance describes the registration categories. Check the evidence for the people undertaking your installation, alongside the verification details displayed on their TTC profile.
Need help finding the right category? Contact TTC with your location, system type and a brief description of the project. Availability and suitability must be agreed with the business.
Questions before booking a heat-pump survey
- Have you completed comparable installations, and can you show examples?
- Do you cover my town or village, and will you survey the property?
- Who takes responsibility for the overall design and coordination?
- Which existing components can remain, and which need replacing?
- What do you need from me before providing a firm quotation?
- Who handles servicing, warranty claims and faults after installation?
