How plumbing works in a Cypriot home

Hot water usually comes from a solar water heater on the roof, with an electric immersion heater as backup for cloudy days. Many homes also have a water storage tank and a pressure pump, because mains supply can be intermittent or low pressure in some areas. When the pump or its pressure vessel fails, the whole house loses pressure.

Water in much of Cyprus is hard, so limescale builds up in heaters, taps, shower heads and valves. Pipes are often buried in concrete floors and walls, which makes finding a leak harder and is why good plumbers use pressure testing and moisture meters before breaking anything open.
