What goes wrong in Cypriot bathrooms

The most common problem is water getting behind tiles in the shower and into the floor or wall, often because the area was never properly waterproofed before tiling. In apartments, that water can end up in the neighbour's ceiling below. A good fitter applies a waterproofing (tanking) system to the shower area and floor before any tiles go down.

Hard water leaves limescale on glass, taps and shower heads, and can shorten the life of cheap mixers and thermostatic valves. Many bathrooms also lack an extractor fan, so steam condenses on cold walls in winter and mould follows.

Walk-in showers and wet rooms

Walk-in showers are popular, especially with owners planning to stay long term. A level-access floor needs the right fall to the drain and full waterproofing, and in a concrete slab it may mean cutting a channel for the drain. Check the water pressure too: in homes with a pump and tank, a large rainfall shower head may need a pressure check first.
